Patrick Thompson
What I do at Everi
Art Director for Studio 7, and Steady Hand Studio, based in Austin, Texas.
Who am I?
I've worked in the gaming industry since 2014. First for Cadillac Jack which became AGS as an Illustrator & Animator, Intuicode as an Art Director + Illustrator & Animator, and now at Everi as an Art Director.
I started out as a freelance illustrator, working as an English Teacher in China by day, and illustrating by night. Working as a freelance artist gave me great appreciation for time management, accurate estimates, and a deep appreciation for those struggling to make their dreams work. As an artist who came from an non-traditional career and education path, I know that a resume isn't everything - a good portfolio speaks much more to what an artist can bring to the table.

Advice for prospective candidates
Target your portfolio and resume to the job you're seeking. If your portfolio shows me that you can do the job we're hiring for, then you're more likely to move to the next stage. So, if you're applying to be an artist in the gaming industry, show me that you can make slot art in line with the style and quality that you see in our games. Show me that you've researched the position and the industry that you're applying to be a part of.
